How to distinguish lead-free and leaded solder joints on circuit boards?
With the widespread use of lead-free solder, friends will wonder if it means that all PCBA boards are lead-free, and all lead-free solder is used? In fact, not all SMT processing uses lead-free solder, because sometimes, considering cost issues or other issues, many circuit board manufacturers will continue to use lead-based processes.
Appearance: On the circuit board, the surface with lead solder looks bright white first, while lead-free solder is pale yellow (because lead-free solder contains copper metal).
In terms of hand feel: if you wipe the solder with your hands, lead-free solder will leave yellow marks on your hands, while lead solder will leave black marks.
In terms of ingredients: lead-free solder contains two main factors, tin and lead, while lead-free solder contains lead less than 500PPM), and lead-free solder generally contains tin, silver or copper metal elements.
Use: leaded solder is used for the welding of leaded products, and the tools and components used in it are all leaded. Lead-free solder is used for lead-free soldering of products exported to Europe, America and other countries, and the tools and components it uses must be lead-free.
