Split Pattern Of Global PCBA Industry

Jul 02, 2026

The global PCBA industry has witnessed obvious K-shaped structural differentiation in 2026. While low-end general consumer electronics manufacturing capacity keeps shifting overseas, high-value orders covering medical electronics, new energy power electronics and AI computing hardware are booming continuously. Chinese manufacturers with complete precision manufacturing capabilities remain the core of global high-end supply chains.

The global PCB & PCBA market scale is expected to exceed 95 billion US dollars in 2026, with a year-on-year growth rate of around 12.5%. China accounts for 55% of global production capacity and remains the key manufacturing hub for circuit board assembly. The industry shows two distinct development trends: low-barrier consumer electronics such as mobile phones and small home appliances are gradually moving to Southeast Asia for lower costs. However, overseas buyers still turn to Chinese suppliers for high-end products that demand strict precision, long-term reliability, cleanliness control and compliance certifications.

Multiple downstream sectors lead to tight supply of high-end production capacity. Firstly, the global portable medical electronics market expands steadily. Overseas demand for household therapy devices, negative-pressure respiratory equipment and portable diagnostic gadgets keeps rising. Strict regulations including EU MDR and US FDA raise standards for soldering stability, board cleanliness and full dimensional inspection. Manufacturers without medical-grade production capacity can hardly access overseas brand supply chains.

Secondly, demand for power electronic products such as energy storage modules, vehicle control units, SiC and IGBT modules surges year-on-year. Products featuring thick copper boards and high-current connections require stable long-running performance, leading to lasting shortage of precision assembly capacity. Together with rising demand for high-layer boards for AI servers, high-end PCBA order backlogs are extended. Leading factories' premium production lines are fully booked until the first quarter of next year, and some overseas buyers are willing to pay extra to secure production slots.

On the supply side, capacity elimination and expansion happen simultaneously. Prices of upstream raw materials including copper clad laminates, solder paste and MLCCs keep rising throughout the year. Outdated SMT lines fail to meet high-density and high-reliability standards, squeezing profit margins of small and medium-sized factories focusing on low-end OEM. In contrast, major domestic PCB and PCBA firms have announced nearly 60 billion RMB expansion plans in the first half of this year.             New investments are concentrated on high-layer boards for AI servers, precision medical boards and new energy power boards, with no new low-end production lines added. The whole industry is shifting toward precise and high-reliability manufacturing.

Industry insiders predict such differentiation will last for the next two to three years. Global purchasers no longer only focus on low prices. Instead, they evaluate suppliers comprehensively from production equipment, cleanliness management, full-process quality control and compliance systems. Manufacturers capable of steady mass production of high-reliability medical and power electronic products will maintain long-term orders and premium profits, while factories trapped in low-end homogeneous competition will face greater operational pressure.
