The future of battery energy storage in Europe

The impact of increased energy consumption

A booming world population and increasing per capita energy consumption mean that global energy consumption is increasing incrementally. The transportation sector saw a similar increase, as more cars were on the road and traveled longer distances. The environmental and social impacts of this increase in energy consumption are becoming more and more apparent. This has accelerated the development and deployment of renewable energy (RES) harvesting technologies and facilities. Renewables accounted for 24.4% of global electricity generation at the end of 2016, compared to 23.3% in 2015 and 18.5% in 2006.

Energy storage technology

When it comes to batteries, there are a variety of technologies, each with their own specific advantages and disadvantages. Currently, lithium-ion batteries are the most promising technology, especially for mobile applications, because they are robust, have sufficient energy density, and economies of scale have reduced costs. On the other hand, flow batteries are gaining increasing attention as they offer a cost-effective energy solution mainly suitable for stationary applications.

Battery energy storage technology is already commonly used in microgrid and utility-scale projects. Battery energy storage projects are deployed in large numbers in many regions of the world. BQC provides services to the world's top ten industrial energy storage customers, and has assisted in the completion of nearly 8GWh of energy storage projects. We sincerely look for global partners.
