Tesla's Powerpack battery was commissioned by Mercury at its research and development centre in South Auckland as part of an ambitious project to test the direct integration of battery energy storage into the New Zealand grid. The energy company will also gather knowledge about trading energy storage and how stored electricity relates to renewable hydro and geothermal energy in its power generation portfolio.
