What does PCB via mean?

Feb 26, 2024

There is a drilling process in Pcb board manufacturing. Corresponding holes are drilled on the copper-clad board as needed. They are also called via holes in the industry, because a layer of metal needs to be plated on the holes during via holes. Therefore, they are also called metallized holes. According to the different manufacturing processes, via holes can be divided into three categories: through holes, buried holes and blind holes.

A through hole, also called a conductive hole, is a hole that penetrates a circuit board. It usually serves to interconnect circuits between different layers and to dissipate heat. Blind holes have a certain depth and do not penetrate the board like through holes. , between the top layer and the surface layer of the bottom layer, its main function is to connect the circuit connections between the top layer and the inner layer board; while the buried hole is buried inside the PCB board, because the hole is inside, but from the surface of the board It cannot be seen from the test, but the function of buried vias is to connect the circuits of the inner layer board. Among the three types of vias, the process and production difficulty of buried vias are the most complicated, followed by blind vias, and the through-hole process is relatively simple.
