The Layer Classification and Characteristics of PCB Board

Jun 24, 2019

1. The single panel

A PCB with a layer of circuits is a basic type, characterized by the concentration of only electrical components on one side and the presence of various wires on the other side . Because the conductor is only on one side of the board, the name single-sided PCB is derived. Single-sided printed circuit boards need to be centrally wired, so there are too many constraints to consider in the actual design process. In view of the production limitations of single panel, the production scale of single PCB is gradually decreasing.

2. Double panel

There are wires on both sides of the printed circuit board. At the same time, in order to establish the correct circuit connection for the wires on both sides, there are guide holes on the PCB board on both sides. Through this small metal hole, the connection of wires is not affected. The advantage of double-sided printed circuit board is that it has a larger board surface utilization area, which is more suitable for application in the circuit of complex electronic equipment.

3. A multilayer

The design concept of multilayer printed circuit boards is derived from increasing the wiring area as much as possible. Multi-layer PCB is a combination of single-side and double-side PCB by different arrangement. For example, two single-sided PCB boards and two double-sided PCB boards are used as the inner and outer layers of a multilayer board, and then they are tightly bound together with certain insulating bonding materials to form a group of four-layer PCB boards. In general, multiple printed circuit boards have an even number of layers.

To conclusion, PCB board can be divided into three categories: single panel, double panel and multi-layer board. The price of these three PCB boards is growing, but the comprehensive performance is getting better. In addition, PCB board can be divided into rigid board and flexible board according to the production materials. No matter how printed circuit boards are classified, we choose them based on your usage requirements.
