On-Board Charger as a key component of AC charging of new energy vehicles, OBC's market scale expands with the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle market. The data shows that in 2022, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China is 6.887 million, and the OBC market of new energy vehicles is about 17.9 billion RMB. By 2025, the global OBC market will reach 66 billion RMB, with great potential.
New energy vehicles can be divided into hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), extended-range hybrid electric vehicle (EREV), battery-driven pure electric vehicle (BEV) and hydrogen fuel cell pure electric vehicle (FCEV) according to charging methods.
Among them, PHEV, EREV and BEV all need external charging, so such vehicles need to install an OBC inside. OBC can charge electric vehicles with single-phase 220V or three-phase 380V AC power supply, and can provide up to 22kW of power for fast charging.
Because all power batteries of electric vehicles need DC to charge, the core function of OBC is to input AC power and then convert it into DC charging voltage suitable for batteries.
