Statkraft's Wind Power Enables Air Liquide to Produce Hydrogen

Germany - Statkraft has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Air Liquide to provide renewable energy from Statkraft's wind portfolio in Germany to fuel Air Liquide's new 20 MW water electrolysis plant in Oberhausen.

The partnership will enable the production of renewable hydrogen on an industrial scale, support the reduction of CO2 emissions and help customers sell products with a lower carbon footprint.

Starting in 2024, Statkraft's wind energy will be supplied to Air Liquide for three years. This partnership allows Air Liquide to be fully REDII compliant and to demonstrate that the hydrogen produced is renewable. The renewable energy will be used at Air Liquide's "Trailblazer" electrolyzer plant in Oberhausen, Germany. By integrating the electrolyzer into the existing infrastructure of the Rhine-Ruhr Valley, Air Liquide aims to provide renewable hydrogen and oxygen to key industries and transport sectors.

Renewable hydrogen

By harnessing renewable wind energy, Air Liquide's new electrolyzer plant in Oberhausen will supply renewable hydrogen and oxygen to key industries and the transportation sector. This partnership not only supports the reduction of CO2 emissions, but also enables Air Liquide's customers to sell products with a lower carbon footprint. The successful implementation of this PPA highlights the importance of green power PPAs in accelerating the energy transition and fostering a more sustainable future.
