PCBA production process

Feb 28, 2025

In the field of electronics manufacturing, the PCBA production process is the core link between the circuit design and the end product. The process covers multiple stages such as design verification, material preparation, assembly welding and quality inspection, and each step requires strict control of accuracy and efficiency.

First. Design verification and document preparation

The PCBA process begins with the standardization of design documents. Engineers need to import Gerber files, BOM (Bill of Materials) and coordinate files into the production system, and optimize the layout through DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analysis to avoid component conflicts or welding defects. This link directly determines the feasibility of subsequent production.

Second, SMT technology: high-speed and accurate component assembly

At the core stage of PCBA production, SMT (surface mount technology) equipment uses solder paste printing, SMT machines to grab components (0402 or even 0201 packages) at high speed and accurately position them. Reflow furnaces solidify solder joints with temperature-controlled curves, ensuring electrical connections with micron accuracy.

Third, DIP plug-in and wave soldering process

For through-hole components (such as large capacitors and connectors), the DIP (double in-line) plug-in process is required, and then the welding is completed by wave soldering. The difficulty in this stage is temperature control and solder joint uniformity, and it is necessary to avoid virtual welding or bridge problems.

Fourth. Testing and quality control

In the PCBA production process, AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) and X-Ray can quickly identify solder joint defects and polarity errors; ICT (online testing) and FCT (Functional testing) verify circuit connectivity and product performance. The data is fed back to the MES system to achieve traceability of the whole process.

Fifth. Cleaning and protection treatment

For PCBA with high reliability requirements, it is necessary to clean residual flux and spray three anti-corrosion paints to improve moisture resistance and corrosion resistance.

BQC has more than 20 years of experience in PCBA manufacturing and has a complete PCBA production process to drive the electronics manufacturing industry towards high precision and high reliability.
