Wave soldering means that the molten solder (lead-tin alloy) is sprayed into the solder wave required by the design through an electric pump or an electromagnetic pump, so that the printed board with pre-installed components passes through the solder wave to realize the soldering of components. Soldering of mechanical and electrical connections between terminals or pins and printed board pads. The solder of wave soldering is mainly tin strips, so that the molten liquid tin is welded to the circuit board pads where the components are inserted, and the component feet and the circuit board are welded together.

First, the type of wave soldering

1. Single wave soldering is to use the tin pump to continuously pour the molten solder vertically upward toward the narrow and long outlet to form a wave with a height of 10-40mm. In this way, the solder acts on the PCB at a certain speed and pressure, and fully penetrates between the component feet to be soldered and the PCB board, making it completely wet and soldering. Compared with dip soldering, it can significantly reduce the rate of missed soldering. Due to the flexibility of the solder wave, even if the PCB is not flat, good soldering quality can still be obtained as long as the warpage is less than 3%.

2. Double-wave soldering is because SMD does not have a mounting hole like THD, and the gas volatilized after the flux is heated is dissipated. In addition, SMD has a certain height and width, and is high-density mounting, and the surface of the solder has a tension effect, so It is difficult for the solder to wet and penetrate into every corner of the mounted components in time, so if single-wave soldering is used, there will be a lot of solder leakage and bridge connections, and double-wave soldering must be used to solve the above problems. The back wave is a wide flat wave in both directions, and the solder flows smoothly and slowly, which can remove excess solder and eliminate burrs, bridges and other undesirable phenomena. Double wave soldering can achieve good results for SMD soldering, and it has been widely used on PCBs with mixed mounting methods.
