JinkoSolar to Deliver Liquid-Cooled Energy Storage System to Zhejiang Jiande Grid-Side Standalone Energy Storage Plant SunTera
Recently, JinkoSolar, a global innovative photovoltaic company, has successfully delivered the liquid-cooled energy storage system SunTera, a 50MW/100MW grid-side energy storage power plant located in Jiande, Zhejiang Province, which, upon completion of the first batch of 55MWh, will effectively promote the consumption of new energy in the local area, provide grid-assisted services, guarantee the safe and stable operation of the electric power system, and effectively promote the economic and social development of the local community.
This demonstration project by the Zhejiang Energy Bureau and State Grid Corporation marks the successful application of liquid-cooling cutting-edge technology in the field of energy storage engineering, which promotes local energy security and stability as well as green and low-carbon development.
SunTera takes safety to the extreme. With the liquid cooling system, the temperature difference between the batteries in the cabinet can be controlled within 2.5 degrees Celsius, which prolongs the service life of the system, increases the usable power generation capacity, and improves the profitability of the power plant owner. So why does reducing the temperature difference between the batteries extend the life of the batteries and increase the amount of power generated? This is because lithium-ion batteries discharge at different temperatures with different efficiencies. The ideal operating temperature for Li-ion batteries is around 25 degrees Celsius, and temperatures that are too high or too low will reduce their discharge efficiency and life. If the temperature difference between batteries is too large, it can lead to changes in their internal chemistry, resulting in lower efficiency and life.
In addition, JinkoSolar's SunTera liquid-cooled system offers good safety, high energy density of 3.44 megawatt-hours (MWhs), good thermal management, intelligent operation and maintenance, and strong environmental adaptability.
