HVAC Basics: What is HVAC and what does HVAC stand for?
HVAC is a common term people use, and most people have a general idea of what it refers to.
Definition: HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. HVAC refers to the different systems used to move air between indoor and outdoor areas, as well as the heating and cooling of residential and commercial buildings. They are systems that keep you warm and comfortable in winter and cool and fresh in summer. They are also systems that filter and clean indoor air, keeping you healthy and keeping humidity levels at optimum comfort levels.

The purpose of an HVAC system is not just to heat or cool a space. Instead, it helps improve indoor air quality and provides comfort for everyone in the building. While there are several different types of HVAC systems, they all start with the same basic elements.
First, have a source of fresh air from outside or indoors. This process is called ventilation, and it happens in two different ways. Natural ventilation is present in most homes, which refers to the way air moves in and out, usually through windows, doors, vents, and other openings. This air exchange is necessary to replenish oxygen and remove odors, carbon dioxide, and excess moisture.
