How to Solve the Solder Joint Pinching During PCBA Processing

May 17, 2024

Solder point protrusion refers to the sharp protrusions on the solder joints on the solder pads of a PCB board after welding processing, which is called solder point protrusion.

The most direct impact of solder joint pinching is the appearance of PCB products. The unsightly solder joint processing of the product can affect customer cooperation in the later stage; When the length of the solder joint is too long, it can lead to a decrease in the insulation distance between the solder joints, which can easily cause adverse phenomena such as bridging in the later stage.

Reasons for PCBA solder joint tip pulling

1. When manual welding: the temperature of the soldering iron head is too low, resulting in insufficient heating of the tin wire, which can melt but cannot wet the solder joint;

Premature removal of the soldering iron tip after incomplete solidification of the solder after melting can also cause pulling points;

2. The printed PCB board is exposed to air for too long, resulting in the formation of air oxides on the surface of the solder pads. When welding, the solder cannot be completely wetted;

3. If the welding time is too long and the flux evaporates excessively, it may cause the solder joint to become pointed.

Solution measures for PCBA solder joint tip pulling

1. Control the temperature of the soldering iron to evenly heat the tin wire;

2. Adjust the preheating time of the soldering iron;

3. Timely welding and processing of printed PCB boards;

4. Reasonably control welding temperature to ensure welding quality.
